Angelina Sparta, 96, a resident of the Mary Immaculate Nursing Center in Lawrence. MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017. Angie Sparta was born in Lawrence, January 19, 1921, the daughter of the late Paul and Natalina (Robito) Messineo.
Angie took pride and pleasure in teaching dance and oil painting for more than 40 years. First at the old Salem Town Hall and then for the senior programs at the Mary Foster School. When the Salem Senior Center opened in 2002 she continued teaching dance, until she was in her 90's, aided by her autistic friend and prodigy, Jason McCollin. She will be fondly missed and remembered dearly by her family and her many art and dance students.
Angie is survived by her sister-in-law Sybil Messineo, her nephew's Paul Messineo and his wife Deborah, Tony Boremi and his wife Nancy, Samuel Sparta and Paul Sparta and his wife Joyce. Her only niece and God-daughter, Janet Messineo-Israel and her husband Tristan Israel. She also leaves her close friend Alyce Peters. Angie will be missed by many great nieces and nephews, Thomas and Joseph Messineo, Elizabeth Boremi Ganley, Natalie Zhang and Anthony Boremi. She was predeceased by both her husband, Alfred Sparta in 2007 and her only beloved daughter Marie (Calobrisi) Sparta. The apple of her eye, her brother, Augustine Paul Messineo and her sister Helen.
Following cremation, visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A celebration of her life service will follow Friday at 4:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Salem Senior Center, 1 Sally Sweet Way, Salem, NH 03079.
