Obituary

A nna Beaton Lizier, age 67, passed away in her Atkinson home on Monday, five years after being diagnosed with metastatic melanoma.

Anna, a lifetime NH resident, was born in 1954 in West Stewartstown, NH to Geraldine "Jerry" and Beaton Marsh and raised in Colebrook, NH. Anna graduated from Colebrook Academy in 1972, and graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, MA in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Early childhood education.

During college, Anna participated in a foreign exchange program in Denmark, where she met local Dane and future husband Dennis Lizier. In 1976, Anna and Dennis married at the Old North Church in Boston.

Anna first began teaching in 1977 in Atkinson (at what is now the Atkinson Police Station). Anna spent the majority of her career as an elementary educator in the towns of Atkinson and Sandown as a Title 1, first, and second grade teacher. Anna's passion for education led her to obtain her Master's in Technology Education from Lesley University in 2009. She continued teaching at Atkinson Academy as a Technology and Health educator until her 2018 retirement after a 41 year teaching career in the Timberlane school district.

Anna's favorite things included traveling, traditions, and her cats. Anna enjoyed traveling with Dennis to places like Paris and Italy, but her best times were spent at Higgins Beach in Scarborough, Maine and in Denmark. Some of her cherished traditions were related to these places, like collecting sand dollars at Higgins and making Danish glogg and aebleskiver at Christmas. Anna rarely had fewer than two cats at a time, and spoke often with fondness for her feline friends.

Beyond those interests, she was most passionate about her friends and family. Regular visits with her children (who all remained nearby in NH) and "cousin days" with her grandchildren made her happiest. She loved crafting and cooking with her granddaughters, and helping them with schoolwork. She looked forward to summer dinners on the deck with family and watching for hummingbirds. Anna was the kind of person who maintained lifelong relationships, always keeping in touch with her childhood friends, Canadian friends, and of course her brother Mac.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years Dennis; son Christian and spouse Jill, daughter Majken, son Steffen and spouse Nina; brother Harold "Mac" and spouse Susan Brown; and her three granddaughters Cameron, Elle, and Jane.

She was preceded in death by parents Geraldine "Jerry" and Beaton Marsh and sister Nancy Brown.
