Barbara A. (Leriche) Chisholm, 88, daughter of the late Alice E. (Allen) and Leo Leriche and Uncle Albert E. Searle, passed away on January 29 th at Aurora Senior Living in Derry, NH.
A resident of Salem, NH for 88 years she was a member of The First Congregational Church where she worked on many church suppers. She graduated from Woodbury High School, Salem, NH. She was a great athlete in high school where she was captain of the basketball, field hockey and softball teams bringing home many wins.
She worked at Western Electric Co., Rockingham Race Track and B J's Wholesale Club where she earned Star of the Year for not missing a day from work. One great achievement was creating her own cordwood business called "Cuffy's Cordwood" where she cut, split and delivered the cordwood herself. In 1981 The New Hampshire Times ran a feature story with her picture on the cover titled "A One-Woman Cordwood Business". She also enjoyed working on cars with her brother Russell and was an avid gardener. She grew and canned the best tomatoes and cucumbers in the town. She also loved ice fishing and clamming at Hampton Beach where she would bring her own Boston Whaler boat to go clamming on the sand bars.
Barbara is survived by her loving sister Helen M. Conley of Salem, NH, her brother Russell Leriche of Columbia, SC, and her sister Dorothy Hebert of Londonderry, NH, nieces Helen Anderson and Barbara Conley of Salem, NH and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard E. Chisholm and her brothers, Arnold and Robert Leriche.
Graveside services will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, 329 Main St. Salem, NH.
