Beryl
Marchand
d. Dec 7, 2024
Beryl (Perry) Marchand passed away peacefully at Salemhaven on December 7, 2024. She was 96 years old. She was the daughter of Stanley and Winnifred Perry of Skinners Pond, Prince Edward Island Canada. Beryl was raised and educated in Skinners Pond. She worked in various industries on the island from picking potato's to shucking lobsters at a canning factory. She returned to Lawrence after her 18thbirthday, looking for employment.
Beryl met her husband, Arthur, while shopping at his father's market in Lawrence. They were married September 4th1950 at St. Ann's Church Lawrence, MA and celebrated 60 years of marriage. Family was a priority to Arthur and Beryl; their house became the hub for all of their children, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members. Beryl loved to cook and feed everyone. There was always a pot of soup, biscuits, salad and a hot cup of tea ready.
Along with raising their 2 sons, Beryl worked at various jobs in the mills before opening Down East Fish & Chips in Lawrence, which she operated for 20 plus years. Her fish chowder and fish & chips were renowned, with people making the trip each Friday from all over the area.
Arthur, Beryl and Oscar (Father In-law) moved to Salem, NH in 1987. They became members of St. Joseph's Church. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, taking trips to the casinos, and playing 45's. Near to her heart were her and Arthur's yearly trips to her beloved Prince Edward Island, to connect with her sibling's nieces, nephews and many friends.
Beryl was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 2010, and her siblings; Lester, Kevin, Ollen, Merlene Clark, and Leitha Keeping.
Beryl is survived by her two sons, Paul Marchand and wife Kate Ewing of Salem, NH and Roger Marchand and wife Kim of Hampstead, NH. She is also survived by one sister Karyl Arsenault of Seacow Pond and sister In-law Barbara Ann (Buote) Perry of Skinners Pond, Prince Edward Island. Beryl's 6 grandchildren filled her heart with love; Christopher (wife Jill), Michael, Ryan (fiancée Katie Lynn Faggiano), Ashlee (husband Jimmy Lee Costa), Corrina (husband Shawn Parsons) and Garrett (wife Maggie). In addition, her 16 great grandchildren brought her immense joy. Beryl will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, quick laugh, always a kiss goodbye and God Bless.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Salemhaven, particularly the 3rd floor Nurses and CNA's that took care of Beryl and treated her like family. The care and dedication they provide to their residents is exceptional. We would also like to thank Harborside Hospice for their compassion with Beryl's final journey.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17th from 4:00–7:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.
