Carlene R. (Hagen) Miller, 82, of Andover, MA passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, October 14, 2017 with her children by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth E. Miller in 2006. They were married for 48 wonderful years.

Carlene grew up in Methuen, MA, working in her father's business, Carl's Home Bakery. She graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in the Class of 1952. Her yearbook described her as one "whose bubbling personality overpowers you when you meet her". She also graduated from Fischer Jr. College in Boston in the Class of 1954.

After college, she worked as a writer for the Boston American newspaper, now known as the Boston Herald. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Kenneth E. Miller and began raising a family. For a while, when her kids were all in school, she volunteered at the Shawsheen Elementary School in Andover, MA then later worked as a secretary for the Andover School System until she retired.

Carlene was a member of the Fidelity Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Merrimack Valley Mothers of Twins Club, a current member of the Hummel Club and the Christian Fellowship Church of the Merrimack Valley. She was involved with many other clubs and charitable organizations too numerous to mention. Her generous nature and dedication to others in need will be sadly missed.

She was a woman with a wonderful sense of humor; who loved her family and many friends. She loved sewing, music, singing in the church choir and traveling. Her summers were spent at the camp on Little Island Pond with her family.

She is survived by her four children, Paul A. Miller of Methuen, Ruth Ann LeHane and husband Scott of Methuen and twin daughters; Karen E. Arbour and husband Thomas of Manchester, NH and Susan H. Hilbert and husband Mark of Pelham, NH.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Melissa, Valerie, Elizabeth, Bion, Devon, Heather, Becky and Joshua; as well as three great-grandchildren; Benjamin, Colton and Natalie. She was the daughter of the late Carl J. and Alfreda M. (Müller) Hagen of Methuen, MA.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH .  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, 170 May St., Lawrence, MA .  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Christian Fellowship Church of the Merrimack Valley, P.O. Box 2181, Methuen, MA 01844.
