Carol Jean Mackay, 86, of Salem, NH, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Bowman Place in Bedford, NH, surrounded by her loving family.

Carol grew up in North Andover, MA, the daughter of the late Mildred (Cormey) and Harold Ackroyd. Carol was a proud graduate of North Andover High School, Class of 1957. During high school, she was one of 16 girls in the awesome social club, The Kool Jewels (K. J's). Carol and members of the K. J's remained lifelong friends. Carol met the love of her life, Bob, at 22, which led to a 60 year long, deeply, loving marriage. Carol believed family was precious. She had an exceptional relationship with her parents, her three sisters and her extended family. Carol valued being a wife and mother above all else. Her life revolved around Bob and, her daughter, Karen. Carol worked as a secretary for many years including at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, where her kindness, efficiency and warm spirit touched the lives of colleagues and patients alike. She loved people and always strived to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her faith was extremely important to her. Carol was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in North Andover. When she moved to Salem, she became an active and cherished member of the Atkinson Congregational Church in Atkinson, NH. Carol enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, gardening, ballroom dancing, and trips to the beach. She will be remembered for her love and laughter, her devotion to family and faith, and the kindness she shared with everyone she knew and anyone she met.

Carol will be deeply missed by her beloved daughter, Karen and her husband, Ronald Hannon of Pelham, NH; her treasured grandchildren, Brandon and Jared Hannon; her loving sisters, Marilyn Bergeron, Nancy Fearing, and Joan Potvin; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert "Bob" Mackay.
