Las Cruces
Carroll Gilbert Goodwin of Las Cruces, NM, formerly of Elizabeth, Co and Salem NH, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, patriarch and veteran of the Korean war, returned to his Heavenly Father on October 22, 2020.
Carroll was born on July 15th, 1929, in Sanford Maine to Everard Monroe Goodwin and Ethel Naylor. He had beautiful relationships with his siblings, brother Everard "Zeke" and sister Lilian.
The ever-dutiful son went to work on farms at the age of 10 to help support his widowed mother. He later joined the U.S Army in 1950 for love of Country. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean war with 2 combat jumps in Pyongyang. Carroll was awarded the Korean Service Medal and 2 bronze stars. He remained a proud veteran all his life.
As soon as he got back from the war, Carroll ran to his sweetheart, Barbara "Barbie" Collins and proposed. They were married in 1952, raised 3 sons, 10 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Their beautiful love story spans 68 years and is the stuff epic romantic movies are made of.Throughout his life, Carroll was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities. He especially enjoyed being of service to others and enjoyed his time serving in the Boston Temple. He and his sweetheart were always busy taking care of others selflessly.
Carroll is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart Barbara, sons Allan of Las Cruces, NM, Gary of Las Vegas ,NV and Keith of Montreal QC and their spouses Linda, Elaine and Marc; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends that love him.
The entire family gives testament to the greatness of this loving patriarch. We will remain forever grateful for the family that he and Barbie created for us.
