David S. Oakes, 69, of Salem, NH died Sunday, December 23rd at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.

David was born and educated in Rockland, ME and graduated from Rockland High School. He worked as a truck mechanic for over 34 years with APA in Woburn, MA. David was a member of the Salem VFW Post 8546, the Rockland Elks Lodge 1008 and the Teamsters Union Local 25.

He enjoyed tinkering with small engines and he could fix anything. David was always quick to help family and friends. He enjoyed being outdoors and he was an avid hunter. David enjoyed fishing and camping at Lermond Pond in Maine.

David is survived by his wife, Margaret "Maggie" Oakes of Salem, NH; his daughter, April Oakes of Salem, NH; his siblings, Peter Oakes and wife Sandra of FL and Susan Cran and husband Dale of ME; several nieces and nephews and a special family member, Alan Dennison. He was predeceased by his parents, Yvonne (Gervais) and Bernard Oakes, his brother, Bernard "Sonny" Oakes and sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Oakes.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem.  A funeral will follow Friday at 6:00pm in the funeral home.
