Obituary

David B. Tilton, Sr, 90, a longtime resident of Salem, NH passed away on Thursday, January 6 th at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Mildred (Brown) and Ralph Tilton. David graduated from Pinkerton Academy. He served his country in the US Navy. David was in insurance sales with Bankers Life Insurance for many years. He served 3 terms as a Selectman for the Town of Salem in the 80's and he was the interim Salem Town Manager twice in the 90's. David volunteered at the Food for the Hungry Food Pantry for many years and he was very active with the Salem Boys and Girls Club. He was very kind hearted and was always available to help someone in need. David took a daily walk for many years and he picked up trash along his route. He appreciated the DPW taking care of the "Tilton Route" when he wasn't able to continue this routine. He was awarded the Ganley Award in 1998 for his community service. David collected antique tractors and he was a member of the East Coast Antique Tractor Club. He was devoted to his grandchildren and he always enjoyed watching their sporting events.

David will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Trudy (McLaughlin) Smallwood Tilton; his five  children, David B. Tilton, Jr. of Londonderry, NH, Jeffrey Tilton of Hampstead, NH, Gregory Tilton of Salem, NH; Nancy Tilton Coco and husband Fred of Salem, NH, and Bill Smallwood and wife Marina of Derry, NH; his brothers, Douglas Tilton and Clifford Tilton, both of Salem, NH; his 8 grandchildren, Kaley and Kyle Tilton, Nicholas, Jeremy and Megan Tilton, Jarrett Coco, Joey and Liam Smallwood and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Bernard) Tilton and his brother Ralph Tilton.

Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 13 th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. Please wear a mask and do not attend if you have any cold or flu symptoms. The Funeral Service is private but will be broadcast on our website Friday, Jan 14 th at 10:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's name may be made to the Food for the Hungry Food Pantry, 8 Pleasant St, Salem, NH 03079 or to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Salem, 3 Geremonty Dr, Salem, NH 03079.
