Diane Norton Martin Cox, 92, of Salem, NH, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in Haverhill, MA.
Born in Orange, New Jersey, Diane was the daughter of the late Helen (Norton) and Randolph Martin. She grew up in Short Hills, NJ, graduated from Millburn High School, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Cornell University. Later Diane earned a Master's Degree in Education from Western Connecticut State University. She lived in several states, including New York, California, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Diane enjoyed several jobs once graduating from college, including as a Food Chemist for the R. T. French Company, where she helped develop the first cake mix. She also hosted a television program promoting French's products and continued working within the food industry throughout her life. She taught Culinary Arts at the BCVA school in Norwalk, CT, where her students ran the Wooden Soldier restaurant. Sewing, cooking, and gardening were some of her passions. She and her family loved spending summers visiting her parents in Bermuda. She was an avid outdoorswoman who enjoyed hiking, biking, and playing tennis. Diane was a founding member of Rebuilding Together in Santa Rosa, CA, an active member of the Rails to Trails Conservancy, volunteered at The Living Room in Santa Rosa, and was a member of Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church. She volunteered at Bread of Life Food Pantry.
Diane and Thomas Elwood Cox were married in Christ Church in Short Hills, NJ, on September 4, 1954. Her husband predeceases her. Her three beloved daughters, Martha Cox McKay and husband Andrew of Boston, MA, Wendy Cox of Warren, VT & Vinalhaven, ME, and Lisa Stift and husband Robert of Salem, NH; her four grandchildren, Thomas Stift, and fiancé Alexandra Harvey, Allison Stift, Alexander Stift, and James McKay will miss her deeply.
Calling Hours will take place at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, Salem, NH (171 Zion Hill Road, Salem, NH) from 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
There will be a memorial service at Trinity Church Boston (206 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA) beginning at 10 am Saturday, September 10, 2022.
The burial of her urn will take place in Westfield, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Diane's name to the Bread of Life Food Pantry at Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church, Salem, NH. Please go to www.triumphantcross.org . Select the Bread of Life tab at the top and click on the donation link. Please select Food Pantry under "Give to:" and enter in the memo notes "In Memory of Diane Cox".
