Donald S. "Don" Dyer, of Salem NH, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 27, 2025 at the age of 83 following a brief illness. Born and raised in Bangor, Maine, Don lived a full life marked by faith, service, humor, and love.

Don was born on January 11, 1942, and was the first college graduate in the Dyer family, earning his degree from the University of Maine in 1964. The following year, he married the love of his life, Theresse JoAnn Raymond, a union that would flourish for nearly 60 years.

Following his graduation, Don served his country during the Vietnam War, as a Captain in the United States Air Force, where he became a meteorologist. After his military service, he spent nearly his entire career with New England Telephone and its successor companies, taking an early retirement in his 50s. Retirement, however, never meant slowing down for Don. He went on to serve in various roles, including as a teacher at Open Bible Academy in Burlington, MA, where he worked alongside his wife, JoAnn. The couple also faithfully served for nearly 25 years at The Church of the Open Bible before moving to New Hampshire, where Don continued his ministry and service for over two decades at Fellowship Bible Church in Methuen, MA.

Don's life was forever changed around 1980 when he placed his faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He believed wholeheartedly that through Christ's sacrifice, his sins were forgiven and he was assured eternal life. Don lived out his faith with sincerity, humility, and joy.

He will be remembered for his ever-ready smile, razor-sharp wit, lasting into his final days, and sense of humor that could light up a room. He was a devoted and hands-on father, known for backyard basketball games, canoe trips, and meaningful time spent with his sons and grandchildren.

Don had many gifts: he played the saxophone beautifully, sang with a rich tenor voice, and possessed a remarkable talent for math, often helping his grandchildren with problems that baffled their parents. One of his lesser-known but cherished gifts was his poetry, where he reflected deeply on life through storytelling and rhyme.

Above all else, Don cherished his role as husband, a title he bore with grace and dedication. A close second was his role as "Grampa," which brought him immeasurable joy and purpose.

Don is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Theressa JoAnn Dyer; his sister Susan of Rumford ME; his sons, Christopher E. "Chris" Dyer and wife Teresa of Salem, NH, and Andrew Michael "Andy" Dyer and wife Corinne of Travelers Rest, SC; seven grandchildren, Bethany, Laura, Nathan, Ryan, Quinn, Keely, and Ashton; and one great-grandson, Toby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Bea Dyer of Bangor ME.

Don would want all who read this to know that by the grace and faithfulness of God, the moment he was absent from his body, he was present with his Lord. His family finds comfort in believing that his final breath on earth was met by his first in heaven, as Scripture tells us… "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1st  from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Bible Church, 1 Fellowship Way, Methuen, MA. Please arrive by 10:45 AM.

Burial will be Thursday, July 3rd at 2:00 PM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. Please arrive by 1:40 PM and allow for holiday traffic.
