Donald J. McCullough, 84, of Windham, NH died on Monday, February 25th at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. He was born in Chelsea MA, youngest son of the late John V. and Ann (Toomey) McCullough.
Donald was a resident of Pleasant Valley Nursing Center and was active on their resident's council and a member of the Pleasant Valley Players where he loved to sing and perform for the other residents and their families.
He was born and raised in Chelsea, MA, attended Malden Catholic High School and received his BS from Boston College in 1956. Donald proudly served as a Lieutenant JG in the US Navy aboard the USS Sierra AD-18 and the USS Observer MSO-461, where he served as a legal officer as well as a chaplain among his other duties.
Donald started his career as a salesman for the pharmaceutical company, William H. Rohrer Inc. He later went on to manage the Chelsea Federal Credit Union and was the Civil Defense Director for the City of Chelsea, MA. After moving to New Hampshire in the early 80s, Donald became the Finance Manager at Grappone Automotive.
Donald loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He attended every sporting event and play that his grandchildren participated in. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Lake Winnisquam in Sanbornton, NH.
Donald is survived by his two daughters, Kerry Stap and husband James of Windham, NH and Ellin Drouin of Chester, NH; his brother, John V. "Jack" McCullough II of Andover, MA; his 4 grandchildren, Michael Morin and wife Christa, Emily Morin, Patrick Stap and Timothy Stap; his 2 great granddaughters, Aeris and Ava along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Ellin (O'Connell) McCullough.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 1 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Parish, 2 Searles Rd., Windham, NH. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donald's name to: Catholic Charities, 215 Myrtle Street, Manchester, NH 03104-4354.
