Dorothy G. Newman, 73, of Salem, NH passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 in the High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill, MA surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude D. (Hovasse) Chiaradonna.

Mrs. Newman grew up and was educated in Chelsea, MA, and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1964. She was a proud Brownie and Girl Scout leader in Chelsea for close to two decades. Mrs. Newman served as safety director for Caterair. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also enjoyed crocheting and needlework.

She is survived by her children; Lisa Smith and her husband Michael of Bridgewater, NJ, Joseph Newman of Chelsea and Penny Baker (Dorothy's devoted caregiver for the last 3 years) and her husband Ken of Salem. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Joseph Newman, Jr., Michaela Smith and Abigail Baker, by her brother; Ernest Chiaradonna of Milford, NH and by several cherished nieces and nephews whom were like children to her. She was predeceased by her husband; Bertram R. Newman in 2010 and by her daughter; Dorothy "Dee Dee" Newman in 1999 and by her two brothers; John Chiaradonna and William Chiaradonna.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St., Peabody, MA.
