Obituary

Dr. Johanne A. Quinn, 85, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She was a remarkable woman whose dedication to nursing education, family, and lifelong learning touched countless lives.

Johanne grew up in Lowell and Chelmsford, MA. She graduated from Chelmsford High School. Johanne earned her bachelor’s degree from Rivier University, followed by her master’s degree from Boston University and her Ph.D. from Boston College. Her academic accomplishments were matched by an extraordinary career in nursing education and leadership.

Johanne was instrumental in establishing the School of Nursing at King University in Tennessee and served on the North Carolina Board of Nursing responsible for the certification of nursing schools. She was a respected educator and scholar, having published numerous papers and contributed to nursing textbooks. Her work and dedication helped shape the education of generations of nurses, and she took great pride in the profession she loved.

Johanne lived for many years in Tennessee and North Carolina before making her home in Salem, NH. Outside of her professional life, she had a deep appreciation for travel, theatre, musicals, and the performing arts. She enjoyed going out to breakfast and dinner with friends and treasured the friendships she made throughout her life. She also enjoyed watching online services at St. Anne’s Parish in Bristol, TN.

Above all, Johanne was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy and pride. She will be remembered for her intelligence, accomplishments, kindness, friendship, and the many lives she influenced throughout her distinguished career.

Johanne is survived by her loving husband, John “Jack” Quinn; her son, Stephen Quinn and his wife, Elizabeth; her daughter, Lisa Quinn; her sister, Irene McCrady and her husband, Bruce; her grandchildren, Brian Quinn, Patrick Quinn, James Quinn, and Collin Quinn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sr. Jacklyn Townsend and Richard Townsend.

Her legacy of service, scholarship, and love for her family will continue to live on in all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated August 14th at 4:30 PM at St. Joseph’s Parish at 40 Main St, Salem, NH with a burial on August 15th at 11:00AM at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lowell.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Johanne Quinn’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
