Obituary

Edward "Eddie" Sarkisian, 88, of Salem, NH passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in the High Pointe Hospice House, Haverhill, MA with his loving family by his side.  He was born in North Andover, MA, a son of the late Hachig and Mary (Kachanian) Sarkisian.

Eddie proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Marines.  Once a Marine…..always a Marine.  The discipline learned during his time in the Marines he proudly carried with him his entire life.  Everything he did had to be done the "right" way.  Eddie was the nicest guy in the world, who would do anything for anyone.  He was as helpful as he could possibly be.

Eddie was an avid hiker and bicycle rider.  His daughter was his hiking and biking partner and they were able to spend much treasured time together.  Even in his 80's you would have a hard time keeping up with him.  He enjoyed keeping himself in great shape.  He had even done quite a number of century rides, 100 miles on a bike.

In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing tennis and bowling.  Later on he took up and enjoyed playing horse shoes, corn hole and 45's.  He was a great competitor at games and he was the best at everything he did.  During his life he was a commercial and residential painter, working for John Doerr Painting.  He also took up painting in his personal life, and was a self taught artist in acrylic paint.  The family is proud to have his treasured artworks.  When all is said and done, the light of his life were his two treasured granddaughters, his life was devoted to them and he never missed an event of theirs.

He is survived by his daughter; Maryann "Dee" Rowell and her husband Ken of North Salem, NH, his two treasured granddaughters; Ashley Rowell of North Salem and Haley Rowell of Keene, NH, by his sister; Rose Cunningham of Kingston, NH, by his former spouse and friend; Beverly Tower of Salem, NH, by his niece; Andrea Carifio and nephew; Robert Thomsen and by his beloved BFF Patterdale Terrier; Pippa.  He was predeceased by his brother; Archie "BoBo" Sarkisian and by his special uncle; Bob "Shorty" Kachanian.

Following cremation visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem.  A funeral service will follow Thursday at 6:00pm in the funeral home.  Burial with Marine military honors will be held in the NH State Veteran Cemetery, Boscawen, NH at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Salem Animal Rescue League, 4 SARL Drive, Salem, NH 03079.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude and appreciation to the High Pointe Hospice House, Dana Farber and Brigham & Womens Hospital for the excellent care, compassion and treatment shown and given to Edward and the family during his time spent in their care.
