Edwin L.
Hodgkins Ii
d. Mar 2, 2025
Salem
Edwin L. Hodgkins, II, 78, of Salem, NH passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Edwin grew up in Melrose, MA and graduated from Melrose High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. He enjoyed cars, sports, gardening and puzzles. Edwin loved his cats.
Edwin will be deeply missed by his children, Nicholas Hodgkins and Amanda Clark and his granddaughter, Robyn Raadmae.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cheryl Hodgkins and his grandson, Dylan Raadmae.
My father had the biggest heart, even though at times he was a bit rough around the edges, he wouldn't think twice about going out of his way for someone he loved. If you were on the other side of the country and needed a ride, he would be there. He might not have been the best with communicating his feelings, but you could tell by his actions where his heart was.
My father loved to know how things worked. He enjoyed taking the time to get into the inner workings of just about anything. He was an extremely patient man, except when it came to stupid… He had no time for that! He believed that it didn't matter how long it took for something to get done as long as it was done right. He always aimed for perfection, always. Anything less just would not be accepted.
There are many things I learned from my father. I think his work ethic is what has stuck with me the most. He taught me never to half-ass anything that has your name on it. Always give it everything you have and if you don't know how to do something, just ask.
My father was one of a kind and to say that I'm going to miss him does not even begin to explain how I feel with him gone.
People always tell me how polite, courteous and kind I can be. I owe that to my father. He pressed the idea of respect and manners into me and I am extremely grateful for it. He taught me to always say please and thank you, that I wouldn't get far in life if I didn't say it, and he was so right, per usual. I am far from a perfect person, but if it was not for my father, I can't imagine who and where I would be right now. I will always do my best to live up to the values my father laid out and work each day to be better than the last. I love you Dad.
There are no public funeral services. Arrangements are under the care of Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH.
