Elizabeth Ann
Feather
d. Mar 28, 2020
Tuscon
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Kreusel) Feather, 93, died quietly after a short course of pneumonia on March 28, 2020. She had moved to Tucson, AZ after the death of her beloved husband of 70 years. She was a spirited personality throughout her life and maintained that to the very end.
Betty was born in Lawrence, MA to Eva (Simard) and Walter Kreusel. The youngest of 3 daughters, she excelled academically. In 1944 she received a WWII Cadet Nursing appointment to Lawrence General Hospital and graduated in 1947 as the valedictorian (Florence Nightingale award). She married James L. Feather Jr. on June 22, 1947, in Lawrence, MA.
Betty and Jim moved to Salem, NH in 1951 after Jim completed building their home. Betty continued her education after having her 3 girls. She attended Northern Essex Community College and then Merrimack College graduating with a degree in Sociology. She continued to work as a nurse intermittently at the Bon Secour hospital (now Holy Family) in Methuen, MA. Additionally, she worked as a Headstart nurse for many years in the 1960s.
Betty enjoyed cooking for others and arranging family gatherings. She always saw herself as "Betty Helper" and went out of her way to create things for the church and her family.
After retiring, Betty and Jim traveled the country visiting their daughters in Florida, Texas, Mississippi and Arizona. They greatly enjoyed their snowbird trips as they meandered across the US. To document their excursions, they published an entertaining newsletter for family and friends. Betty was the Editor and Jim was the Cub reporter.
They lived in the same house until 2018 when Jim passed away. Betty then moved to Tucson to be with her daughters.
Betty spent her last days in a memory care unit. She enjoyed visiting with her daughters over many sweet treats and cups of coffee.
Betty is survived by her daughters Ann Rhuland and husband Jim, Margaret (Peggy) Hoehn, Susan Feather and wife Jan; grandchildren Carolyn Marsh, Kurtis Hoehn, Sara Pineau and Amy Nelson; great-grandchildren Austin, Sean, Brooke, Madison, Sampson, Boston Summer, Trey and Jude. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Eva Kreusel and sisters Dorothy (Dot) Spicer and Eleanor Routhier.
There will be a memorial service and meal for family and friends after the current viral pandemic subsides. Watch for an announcement in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with Betty's arrangements.
