Francis "Frank" Harold Wolfe, 78, a lifelong resident of Salem, NH passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Medford, MA, a son of the late Harold A. and Gertrude E. (Chadwick) Wolfe. Frank was a graduate of the Woodbury School in Salem and he earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree at UNH, which is where he met his wife.  He went on to earn his Masters of Science Degree in plant Taxonomy at UCONN and continued on with his Doctorate.  He was the recipient of the Mercer Fellowship at the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University.

Frank collected plants for the Smithsonian in Pucallpa, Peru, for the US National Arboretum and UCONN in Peru, Ecuador, Surinam, Trinidad, Columbia, Venezuela and Panama.  He was the founder of Lake Street Garden Center, which began construction in 1973 and opened May 1974. Frank was a well known and respected plantsman, mentor and remembered by many for his "Yankee" sense of humor.  He was a lover of dogs, gardening, nature, sunsets on the lake, boating, wind surfing, skiing, hiking, studying the dictionary, chocolate and good food.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years; Mary E. (Parry) Wolfe of Salem, his children; Timothy H. Wolfe and his wife Rebecca of Salem, Melanie Wolfe Snyder and her husband Jeffrey of Wynnewood, PA and Thomas John Wolfe of Salem, by his four grandchildren; Ethan and Luke Wolfe and Zach and Julia Snyder and by his dog; Walker.  He was predeceased by his fraternal twin brother; Charles Wolfe and by some of his favorite dogs; Max, Rodney, Hoot and Beagle.

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic the family will be holding a memorial gathering in the future to celebrate and honor his memory safely.
