FREDERIC I MINER, 77, of Salem, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at The Residence at Salem Woods. He was the beloved husband of Susan Ann (Bell) Miner for the past 40 years. Born in Providence, RI, on February 7, 1943, he was a son of the late Frederic and Helena (Ruuth) Miner.

Fred was raised in a small seaside neighborhood called Buttonwoods in Warwick, RI and was active in St Barnabas' Episcopal Church. He was an acolyte and lay reader. He attended the University of Rhode Island to study Mechanical Engineering and left his senior year to attend flight school at Craig Air Force Base near Selma, AL. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard in RI and MA from 1964 – 1973; a Tactical Fighter Pilot with the 101 ^st TAC Fighter Squadron. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club.

Fred had a successful career as a mechanical engineer and technical sales professional in the fluid power industry. He worked for Federal Products and Brown & Sharpe in RI, Miller Fluid Power and then moved to Maine to work for The Leen Company. In 1980 he moved to NH and founded Fluid Motion, Inc., a fluid power consulting and distribution business.

Fred loved to gather his friends and family around him to celebrate life, good company and good food. He was the "bakemaster" of an annual clambake for over 30 years and was always looking to take his culinary skills to the next level.

Fred was a Boy Scout leader in Alfred, ME and later volunteered with that troop for camping trips and events. He enjoyed cross country skiing, hiking, fishing, meditation, chess, golf and tennis. He loved collecting and restoring antique motorcycles and automobiles. Fred was a "Friend of Bill W." for 35 continuous years and a member of Fraternal Lodge #55 A.F. & A.M., in Alfred, ME. He and his wife Sue enjoyed traveling, a few of their favorite destinations included Exuma, Bahamas; Kauai and The Balsams in Dixville Notch.

A lifelong learner with a keen interest and curiosity about the spiritual and natural world, Fred was always engaged in a good book and willing to explore new ideas. He felt a deep relationship to the cosmos and enjoyed astronomy and the observation of the world around him. Fred traveled abroad for two total solar eclipses – one in Aruba and the other in China. He loved music of all kinds, from classical to jazz.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years; Susan A. (Bell) Miner of Salem, his three children: Kelly A. Zaval and her husband Edward of Manchester, MA, Sandra J. Allen of Monument Beach, MA, and Noah F. Miner and his wife, Claire, of Gorham, ME. He also was the grandfather of Jacob Zaval and his wife Margo of Seattle, WA, Paige Zaval of Cambridge, MA, Jared Zaval of Manchester, MA, Cassandra and Samantha Allen both of Monument Beach, MA, and Lillian, Natalie and Jennifer Miner of Gorham, ME. He was the brother of Deborah Vaughan and Judith Turchetta both of Boynton Beach, FL, and Major Kenneth Miner (retired) of Norman, OK.

Funeral services will be private and interment of his ashes will be in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
