Gail J. (Mezakowski) Bernard, 71 of Salem, NH passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in the Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital, Salem. She was born in Lynn, MA, a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Daniels) Mezakowski.
Mrs. Bernard grew up in and was educated in Lynn, MA. She worked as a clerk at Kmart for 30 years between the store in Saugus, MA and the one in Salem, NH. She was a staunch democrat who frequently spoke her mind and always rooted for the underdog. Mrs. Bernard enjoyed traveling, visiting 14 different countries, her trips to Foxwoods and she was a nature lover. She also loved animals, especially her cat; "Keeper." She was a highly compassionate woman who loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by two sisters; Dorothy Mezakowski of Salem and Donna Lane and her husband "Eddie" of Union, KY, a sister in law; Gail Mezakowski of Ft. Myers, FL, by her two nieces and two nephews, by her dearest friend; Mary Cootey of Salem and by a friend who was like a daughter to her; Nancy Tucker of Salem. She was predeceased by her husband; Raymond Bernard, her brother; John Mezakowski and a nephew; Edward Lane.
Following cremation visiting hours will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A funeral service will follow Saturday at 12:00pm in the funeral home.
