George Adyns, Jr., lovingly known as Sonny or, his favorite title, Grandpa, passed away at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on January 7, 2025, at 85 years old. George lived in Sandown, NH, formerly of Davenport, FL, & Lawrence, MA. He was the beloved husband of Michelle (Bricault) for over 57 years. George was very proud of his family, one daughter & one son, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
George was born on May 25, 1939, to George and Emma (Verbeke) Adyns, and was brought up in Massachusetts. He graduated from Andover High School then fulfilled his military obligation in the U.S. Army with an Honorable Discharge. From there he graduated from the former Bentley School of Accounting. After graduating, he also served as president and treasurer of the local chapter of the Bentley Alumni Association for 6 years.
George worked for several years with two different accounting firms heading up their tax departments. In 1979, he started his own accounting and tax business until he retired in April 2000. A well respected neighbor, George also served as a director of the Neigbornood Association for 8 years, was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the parish financial council at his parish church. After moving to Florida, he served a term on the HOA board in their community & continued to assist the HOA board by being a member of the budget committee and as the flagmaster in the park.
While in Florida, George took an incredible liking to shuffleboard, starting playing in tournaments in 2003 then he became a pro in 2006. In 2012, when the doctor told him he could no longer play due to health concerns, he stayed involved by directing tournaments and then served as both vice president & president of the Winter Haven Shuffleboard Club and in March 2020, he was inducted into the Central District Hall of Fame. He was always traveling & helping to run events during his time as part of the shuffleboard association.
George is survived by his wife, Michelle (Bricault) Adyns; his daughter & son-in-law, Mary & Scott McCormack of Sandown, NH; his son, George Adyns of Sandown, NH; his grandsons, Alan McCormack of Hampstead, NH, Tyler McCormack of Eliot, ME, Steven & his wife Julie McCormack of Londonderry, NH; Garrett Adyns of Hampstead, NH, Gunner Adyns of Sandown, NH, and Liam Adyns of Sandown, NH; his granddaughters, Gianna Miller and her husband Shawn of Danville, NH, Grace McCormack of Sandown, NH, and Georgia Adyns of Sandown, NH; and his great-grandsons Hunter & River McCormack.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
Grandpa will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne Catholic Church, Hampstead, NH, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private in the spring.
