Obituary

George Boyko, 97, of Salem, NH passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Methuen, MA.

He was born in Chelsea, MA, to the late Ignat and Stella Boyko. George grew up in Methuen. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific during WWII. He worked as a welder at Sun Shipbuilding Co. in Chester PA before moving to Salem NH. He was employed at Turner's Dairy in Salem NH for over 20 years. George was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salem and also a member of Salem NH VFW Post 8546.

As a young man he sang and played guitar – performing as "The Lonesome Singer" on local radio and other venues. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors and feeding the local wildlife. He loved watching the Red Sox and playing cards, especially 45's.

He is survived by his two sons; Gregory Boyko and his wife Carol of Salem, NH and Larry Boyko and his wife Susan of Pelham, NH, six grandchildren; Nicole Dzurilla and her husband Dean of Austin, TX, Erin Boyko of Manchester, NH, Holly Lynch and her husband Chris of Monson, MA, Wayne Boyko of Salem NH, Michael Boyko and his wife Yvonne Engler of Weaverville, NC and Jacqui Boyko and her wife Hesper Schleiderer-Hardy of Wells, ME. He is also survived by five great grandchildren; Eben, Juliette, Jacob, Ellis and Cameron. He was predeceased by his wife; Pauline G. (Bender) Boyko in 2008, brothers; John and Alex Boyko, sisters; Edith MacDonald and Alice Boyko.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, 329 Main St., Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
