George Reasor, 90, died on March 12, 2021 surrounded by his family at the Southern NH Medical Center. He was born in Peru, Indiana in 1930 to the late Daniel Reasor and Ruth (Hilgeman) Reasor. He graduated from Peru High School in 1948, where he played football and made life-long friends. Growing up in Peru, George worked at the hardware store and the steel foundry.

In 1950, George enlisted in the United States Navy where he attended Electronics Technician school and was assigned to the U.S.S. Valley Forge aircraft carrier during the Korean War. In 1953, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Burton Island icebreaker, exploring Alaska and the Arctic via the Northwest Passage. In the Navy, George made many life-long friends and developed a pride in military service. After the Navy, George attended Valparaiso University. He graduated in 1959 and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, preparing him for a long career in technology just as the country was entering the space race. He started his career at Sperry Gyroscope residing in New York, and soon relocated to Virginia where he worked on Polaris submarines at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. It was here, in Virginia, where he met his wife, Viola Coker. They married in 1960 and had their first child, Alan in 1962.

The three traveled across the US living in Nebraska, Massachusetts and Florida as George worked for ITT (International Telephone & Telegraph) Labs installing display equipment at Strategic Air Command (SAC) bases.

In 1967, George, Viola and Alan settled in Dickinson, Texas where George worked for MIT Instrumentation Labs, at the Houston Space Center supporting the NASA Apollo mission by contributing to software analysis and mission support of the Guidance, Navigation, and Control System. As a member of the Apollo XIII Mission Operations Team, George received a Presidential Medal of Freedom for the efforts which transformed a potential tragedy into a dramatic rescue. It was here, in Texas, that George and Viola expanded the family with twin sons, Eric and Gary.

The family moved several more times as George's career relocated them to Virginia, Massachusetts, and California, ultimately arriving in North Andover, Massachusetts, in 1976.

George and Viola raised their three sons in North Andover while George commuted to Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Boston, working on the space shuttle guidance, navigation and control. As a father, he coached soccer and fixed everything from toys to refrigerators. He liked camping, fishing and canoeing with the boys in NH. George and Vi enjoyed traveling to many High School, College and Navy reunions and he loved Vi's southern cooking. George retired in 1993. George was a cancer survivor, diagnosed and treated for colon cancer in 1994 and remained in remission thereafter. In 1995, his beloved wife, Viola passed away.

George moved to southern NH and stayed active in veterans organizations, including being elected Commander of the Salem VFW Post 8546. He was also an avid gun collector and shooter and taught hunting and gun safety courses for 20 years. In retirement, he also frequented flea markets. In NH, he met and married his second wife, Pat Conroy. He and Pat shared many laughs, dining out and getting together with friends and family. As George said, he lived his life to the fullest.

George was predeceased by Viola, his beloved wife of 35 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife Pat; son Alan, son Eric and wife Lonni, son Gary and wife Kimberly; grandchildren Caitlin, Andrew, Jaden, Daniel and Aubree.

Due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic, masks and social distancing are required.  Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.  A funeral service will follow Friday at 12:00pm in the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery, 177 Salem St, North Andover, MA. The service will be live streamed on Friday.
