Jane C. Tennant, 99, of Salem, NH passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, three weeks short of her 100th birthday on July 10, at Greystone Farm at Salem. She was born in Chicago, IL, a daughter of the late Edward C. and Jeannette B. (Grace) Long, but grew up in Aurora, IL, where she graduated from West Aurora High School in 1935. She then went to Stephens College in Missouri for two years before graduating from the University of Illinois in 1939. Upon graduation, she worked in Chicago for a time before marrying John Cunningham in June of 1941. She spent the next three decades in Detroit, MI, Western Springs, IL, Aurora, IL and Elkhart, IN before becoming a longtime resident of St. Clair, MI (from 1975 through 2006). She then moved to Grass Valley, CA for eight years.

Mrs. Tennant was a resident of Salem for the last three years after having moved there at the age of 97. She enjoyed life, was outgoing, social and vivacious. She was a popular resident at Greystone due to her wonderful ability to connect with people. She was a sharp Bridge and Scrabble player, playing until she was 97 and her eyesight began to fail. She was a tremendously resilient woman who deeply loved her family and friends, kept a wonderful home and was a great cook.

She is survived by five children; Julie Cunningham of Milan, Italy and Madison, WI, John Montgomery Cunningham, Jr. of Geneva, IL, Jim Cunningham and his wife Nina of Nevada City, CA, Jeannette G. Graf and her husband Brian of Bow, NH and Laurie Tennant-Gadd and her husband Mel of Cambridge, MA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband; John Cunningham in 1969, by her second husband; Charles W. Tennant, Jr. in 1979 and by her brother; Edward C. Long.

Following cremation funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at St. David's Episcopal Church in Salem, NH on July 10.
