Obituary

Joan M. (Drescher) Emmert, 89, of Hampstead N.H. died quietly on June 17, 2022 at her home on Big Island Pond.

She was born in Lawrence, MA on December 10, 1932, the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Gordon) Drescher, where she attended the Rollins School and then Lawrence High, which she graduated from in 1950. Joan went on to study at the Bryant McIntosh Secretarial School of Lawrence and then worked for the Bolta Company of Lawrence before her marriage to Julius W. Emmert of the J.B. Emmert and Sons Funeral Home in 1954. Although she didn't mind being an undertaker's wife, she often said that the only time she ever got flowers was when there were leftovers from a funeral.

Joan was very artistic and taught ceramics for many years in her studio in Lawrence. One of her passions included reading murder mysteries, her cats and feeding the wildlife in her back yard. She was especially fond of "Perry Mason" and "Murder She Wrote". She had been a Cub Scout Den mother and Girl Scout Leader who once took her entire troop to California to Disney Land and Knotts Berry Ghost Farm. Joan was very active in the Christ Presbyterian Church of Lawrence helping with Sunday school, the Christmas Fair and the annual Sauerbraten and dumpling suppers. She was also a member of the Geneva Fellowship Society in that church.

Hummels were a big part of her life. She was a member of the Granite State Hummel Chapter and was president of the International Friar Tuck Association where she met and maintained life long friends from around the globe.

She spent her summers at the family lake house on Big Island Pond and became a full time resident of New Hampshire after the death of her husband in 1996.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Ethel (Gordon) Drescher), her husband, Julius W. Emmert and her grandson, Derek Archibald.

She is survived by her son, Julius (Jay) R. Emmert of Hillsborough NH, daughters, Janice Hoehn and Jeanne Archibald, both of Hampstead NH, granddaughter Amanda Archibald and her partner Brett of Amesbury Ma., her cousin, Sandy Gordon of Haverhill, Ma, cousin Toki Emmert of Andover Ma., niece Laurie Burke and her husband, Scott, of Wellesley Ma., and nephew, Thomas Ward and his wife Andrea , of Wellesley Ma. as well as many grand nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Visiting hours will be on June 23rd, 2022, from 5 to 9 at Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem NH. The funeral will be on June 24th, 2022 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home, with visiting hours beginning at 10 A.M.

Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, Ma. In Joan's memory, the family requests that you make a donation to the animal rescue league of your choice.
