Johanna "Joan" Sabatini, longtime resident of Salem, New Hampshire passed away Sunday June 11, 2017 at the age of 90. Recently, the family had joyfully celebrated her milestone birthday with extended family and close friends. Joan was born in Boston Massachusetts to Alexander Cacciola and Anna Mastrangelo and was the eldest of five siblings – Thomas (deceased), Roseann Cacciola , Josie Suplita (Joe), Alice Semon (Ron) all of California.

In 1949 she married the love her life Alfred Sabatini. They shared 62 years wonderful together until his passing in 2011. Joan was adored by her three sons and wives- Ken (Carolyn) of Leawood, KS , Donald ( Cathryn), San Jose, CA and Robert of Concord, NH. Joan was so proud of her four grandchildren Dr. Collin Sabatini (Kalamazoo, MI), Victoria Sabatini (Boston, MA) Ryan Sabatini (San Diego, CA) and Alec Sabatini (Leawood, KS). Although they were separated by many miles the families created special memories with Joan and Al on many vacations together throughout the years in New England.

Joan's contributions to the Salem community were many. She was the Salem Supervisor of the Checklist for many years in addition to her volunteer work. She volunteered with the Salem VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Sunshine Spreaders, and her work on behalf of children and adults with special needs including the creation of the Debbie Voter Center touched many lives. She was honored for her volunteer work both with her husband Al as Salem Volunteers of the Year and most recently from the City of Salem with the Pearl Award.

The family is grateful for the excellent care given to their mother and wish to give special appreciation to caregiver Debbie of Caring with the Heart.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday in the funeral home.
