Obituary

John "Jack" F. O'Brien, 91, of Andover, MA passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He grew up in So. Boston, MA, the son of the late Anna (Kennedy) and George O'Brien.

Jack proudly served his country in the US Marines during the Korean War.  He was the Superintendent of Operations at Andover Post Office. Jack was a faithful parishioner and Eucharistic minister for St. Joseph Church in Salem, later rejoining St. Augustine's Parish in Andover.  He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Andover Elks and he enjoyed cooking their holiday dinners for the elderly.  Jack enjoyed traveling, stamp collecting and walking.  He loved going out to breakfast at local restaurants.


He is survived by his children, Jacqueline Deshaies of Salem, NH, Carlene West and her husband Bob of West Chester, PA, Judith Lefebvre of Barboursville, VA, John O'Brien, Jr. of Salem, NH, George O'Brien of Exeter, NH and Donna Richardson and her husband Todd of Andover, MA; his two sisters, Mary Knopp of Salt Lake City, Utah and Sheila Morgan of Methuen, MA; his brothers-in-law, Leo Lacascia of Fountain Valley, CA and Nick Ricci of Methuen, MA; his sister in law; Cora Rogers and her husband Jim of Ledyard, CT, his 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bertha (Reed) O'Brien; his two sons in law, Will Deshaies and Bruce Lefebvre; his sisters, Helen Lacascia and Gail O'Brien and his in-laws and spouses; Albert and Christine Reed, Burton and Dorothy Reed, Mildred Demers Waldie and Leo Demers and Charlie Waldie, Walter and Ruth Reed, Judith and Carl Estes, Joyce and Bill Corcoran, Beverly Ricci, Ronnie Reed and Frederick Reed.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 2 nd from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, Jan 3rd at St. Augustine Parish, 43 Essex St., Andover. Interment with military honors will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, 124 Abbot St., Andover. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Honor Flight Box L-4016, Columbus, OH 43260-4016.
