Joseph E. Joaquim, Jr., 94, of Derry, NH died peacefully Sunday, July 29 th at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home.
He was born and educated in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Aurora and Jose Joaquim. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He served with the Seabees in the 13 th Special Naval Construction Battalion in the Pacific Rim and was involved in the Invasions of Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. For his brave service, he received several decorations. He attended many courses for the navy. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for thirty years and then at Crown, Cork & Seal in Lawrence, MA. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and doing puzzles.
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Joaquim III and wife Maryann of Windham, NH, Jeffrey Joaquim and wife Brenda of Windham, NH, Jerry Joaquim and wife Cathy of Windham, NH, Angela Grondin and husband Rick of Milan, NH, Brenda Sullivan and Jim Lynch of Exeter, NH, James Joaquim and wife Cheryl of Windham, NH, Cheryl Rogers and husband Jason of Windham, NH, Darlene Baker and husband Douglas of Methuen, MA; his 17 grandchildren; his 20 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Sandra (DiPasqua) Joaquim, his second wife Bertha "Betty" (Ebert) Joaquim and his siblings Philamena Ward, Joviano Joaquim, and John Joaquim.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 2 nd from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 AM at St. Matthew Parish, 2 Searles Rd. Windham, NH. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
