Joseph J. Shola, Sr., 76, of North Andover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lawrence, he was the devoted son of Balbina and Albert Shola. Joe was raised in North Andover and was a proud graduate of North Andover High School, Class of 1967.
He continued his education at Merrimack College, earning his bachelor's degree, and later received his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. Joe dedicated his professional career to the field of healthcare finance, where he was respected for his commitment, integrity, and work ethic.
Joe also served his country honorably in the National Guard for five years in Manchester, New Hampshire, working as a medical specialist. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar for his skill and service.
A proud member of the American Legion Post 219 in North Andover, Joe valued community, camaraderie, and service. In his personal life, he had many passions, including electric trains, woodworking, and home projects—there was little he couldn't fix. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.
Joseph J. Shola, Sr. will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, and deep love for those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Shola.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; his three children, Jennifer Hall and husband Brian of Hampstead, NH, Rebecca Hoogendyk and husband Jeffrey of Salem, NH and Joseph J. Shola Jr. and wife Rachel of Windham, NH; his sister Claire Dye of MA; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew, Jeffrey Jr., Thomas, Chloe, and Brianna and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24th from 3:00 – 7:00PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 25th at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Parish, 196 Main St, North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
