Kerry R. Hughes, a beacon of courage, strength, and love, passed away peacefully on May 18th at the age of 57, surrounded by his loving family.

Kerry grew up in Windham, NH, and graduated from Pinkerton Academy. He worked as a mechanic at Genesse Auto in Salem, NH for 15 years before continuing his career at the City of Lawrence DPW. At the age of 39, Kerry received a life-altering diagnosis of ALS. From that moment on, he made the brave choice to embrace each day to the fullest, drawing strength from the deep love he had for his family. His battle was not only against the disease but for the precious moments — both big and small — that he could share with those he loved most.

Kerry's determination to live fully never wavered. His strength was a true testament to the power of love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A man of great discipline and heart, Kerry earned a black belt in Taekwondo and competed in numerous competitions. He also found peace and joy in fishing — a favorite pastime.

Kerry will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Karen (DiZazzo) Hughes, and his three children: Johni Farah and her husband Mitchell, Patrick Hughes and his wife Amanda, and Gianna Zani and her fiancé Adam Brennick. He is also survived by his mother, Jeanne Rainey, his mother and father in law, John and Jean DiZazzo and his cherished granddaughters, Seraphina and Calliope. He leaves behind his sisters, Sherri Herbst and her husband Derrick, and Rae Anna Hughes, as well as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori and Bob Allen, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Kim DiZazzo. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his father Raymond Hughes, his step-father Howard Rainey and his sister Wendy Hughes.
