Obituary

Kevin Smith, a devoted music educator, talented musician, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most.

Born and raised in Westborough, MA, Kevin graduated from Westborough High School before earning his Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Lowell. His career began in the classroom, where he inspired generations of young musicians with his passion, patience, and unwavering dedication. He later became the band director at Woburn High School, where his enthusiasm for music and his commitment to his students left a lasting impact.

In the later part of his career, Kevin transitioned into Information Technology, serving as the Network Administrator at Central Catholic High School for 15 years. He brought the same care, precision, and quiet determination to this role that he had once devoted to conducting ensembles.

Music was Kevin's lifelong passion. An accomplished musician, he was most at home with a saxophone in hand—though he could coax beautiful sound from nearly any instrument. He was known for his remarkable ability to play jazz with soul, skill, and true joy. Kevin performed with the Windham Concert Band, where Thursday night rehearsals became cherished "date nights" with his wife Pam, with whom he shared a deep love of music. He also played with the After Hours Big Band, the New Magnolia Big Band, the Silver Notes, the Ashby Concert and Swing Bands and the Merrimack Valley Concert Band. One of his proudest accomplishments was founding the Windham Saxophone Quartet, where his artistry truly shined.

At home, Kevin found joy in life's simple pleasures—caring for his cats and birds, listening to Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots games on the radio, tinkering in the barn, and resting in his favorite outdoor chair as he listened to the quiet sounds of the woods behind his home.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pamela Chulada-Smith; his daughter Corinna and her husband Charles Cohn of Carthage, NC; his son Gregory Smith of Methuen, MA; his brothers Calvin Smith of West Virginia and Alan Smith and his wife Anne of Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law Debbie Smith of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Norma Smith, and his brother Ken Smith.

Kevin's legacy lives on in the music he shared, the students he inspired, and the gentle kindness he offered to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
