Manuel Silva 85, of Salem, NH passed away at Parkland Medical Center on Tuesday, August 27th.

He grew up in Lexington, MA the son of the late Mildred and Manuel Silva. Manny graduated from Lexington High School and proudly served in the US Marine Corps. After retiring from Yellow Freight, Manny became active in the community and was a member of the Salem Lions Club and volunteered with the Food for the Hungry Food Pantry. Manny was an avid outdoorsman and earned a black belt in karate in his younger years. He enjoyed bird watching and especially learning about and feeding hummingbirds. Baking pies and sweets for friends and family brought him great pleasure.

Manny is predeceased by his wife Patricia, his brothers, Arthur and Steven and his son, Roy.

Manny is survived by his daughters, Barbara Niland and husband John of Fremont, NH and Heather Knight and husband Jason of Londonderry, NH; his sister, Ruthie Amen of Leawood, KS; his sisters in law, Janice Silva and Carole Ardizzoni and his brothers-in-law, James Amen and James Ardizzoni; his 3 grandchildren, Patick Niland, Kyle Knight and wife Kelsey and Troy Knight; his great grandson, Bowden and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will begin Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. Urn burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations in Manny's name may be made payable to:  Food for The Hungry Food Pantry and mailed to Pleasant St. UMC, 8 Pleasant St., Salem, NH 03079.
