Margaret M. "Peg" (O'Connor) Akerley, 82, of Salem, NH passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Peg grew up in Charlestown, MA, the daughter of the late Margaret (Weldon) and John O'Connor. She graduated from St. Rose School in Chelsea, MA. Peg was a long time resident of Melrose, MA before moving to Salem, NH. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #63 in Salem. Peg was a frequent volunteer at the Knights of Columbus blood drives. She worked for many years at the Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital and the Salem Housing Authority. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening and she was a talented seamstress and knitter. Peg was devoted to her family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Peg will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 62 years, Kenneth Akerley of Salem, NH; her 5 children, Kenneth Akerley Jr. and wife Bonnie of Lowell, MA, James Akerley and partner Robin of Laconia, NH, William Akerley and wife Lisa of Gilford, NH, Elizabeth Brescia and husband John of Brentwood, NH and Thomas Akerley and wife Donna of Gilford, NH; her siblings, Nancy Porter of Borne, MA, Kathleen Hegarty of Medford, MA, Mary Doherty of Londonderry, NH, James O'Connor and Andrew O'Connor, both of Billerica, MA; her 9 grandchildren; her 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Peter O'Connor.
Calling hours are Tuesday, April 23 rd from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 24 th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Parish, Salem, NH. Burial will be at 1:30 PM in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret's name may be made to: St. Joseph Food Pantry. Please make checks payable to Sts. Mary and Joseph and send to MQP, 200 Lawrence Rd. Salem, NH 03079.
