Obituary

Margaret Moon Hames, 70, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 25, 2025.

She grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the daughter of Palma and the late Dr. John van Courtland Moon. Margaret graduated from Lawrence High School and began her successful business career at Honeywell, where she met the love of her life and future husband, William Hames. Together, they built a life filled with love, creativity, and family. She retired from Teradyne after serving as Human Resources Director.

Margaret was a woman of many talents. A gifted artist, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and shared her passion for the arts with her community. She was a proud member, past President and Board Member of the Greater Salem Artists Association, where she earned many awards for her beautiful paintings and inspired others with her creativity and leadership.

Beyond her work and artistic pursuits, Margaret loved the simple joys of life. She was an avid walker, photographer, appreciator of nature, and lifelong animal lover. Her presence was a source of light and comfort to those who knew her.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband, William Hames of Salem, NH; her stepdaughters, Andrea Idelson and husband Joel of Framingham, MA and Kristine Cunningham and husband Ray of Andover, MA; her siblings, John Moon and wife Susan of East Hampstead, NH, Nicole Roberts of Lawrence, MA, Andrew Michael Roberge and wife Wendy of Salem, NH; her brother-in-law, Bob Conte of Salem, NH; and her cherished grandchildren, Jake Cunningham, Maura Cunningham, Riley Idelson, Joey Idelson, and Grady Idelson. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her sister Laurelle Moon Conte, stepfather Andrew Roberge, and stepmother Joan Moon.

Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, her artistry, and deep love for her family and community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 9 from 1-5 pm at VFW Post 2014, 32 Park Street, North Andover, Massachusetts.  Memorial Contributions in Margaret's name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
