Obituary

Marjorie A. (Stewart) Newton, 81, of Methuen, MA and Rye Beach, NH passed away Tuesday, February 19 th at Salemhaven.

Marjorie grew up in Andover, the daughter of the late Gertrude (Smith) and William Stewart. She graduated from Punchard High School, Class of 1955 and she received her Bachelor's Degree from Sargent College (Boston University) in Boston, MA. She was a physical therapist with Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center later working at Prescott House in North Andover.

Marjorie was past President of the Merrimack Valley Twins Club and she developed some of her best friendships there. She was an active member of West Parish Church in Andover, MA where she was past President of the Women's Evening Circle and Chairman of the craft fair for 18 years. Marjorie was a talented seamstress and had her own business, Toddler Fashions, sewing girls' dresses with matching teddy bears. She participated in the Strawberry Festival craft fair in South Berwick, ME for 37 years, among many others around New England. She enjoyed spending her summers at the beach in Rye with family and friends.

She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 58 years, Wayne Newton of Methuen, MA; her children, Peter Newton and wife Gail of Newburyport, MA, twin sons Paul Newton and wife Johanna Brooks of Newton, MA and Mark Newton and wife Kim of Wellesley, MA, Allison Leveille and husband Greg of Methuen, MA and Reed Newton and wife Deb of Wayland, MA; her brother, Bruce Stewart and wife Maureen of Delray Beach, FL; her 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Spencer, Christopher, Melissa, Jocelyn, Emma, Sophie, Caitlin, Jake, Cole and Liam and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 27 th from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM at West Parish Church, 129 Reservation Road, Andover, MA. Burial will follow in West Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Marjorie's name may be made to: Salemhaven Resident Council Fund, 23 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079.
