Mary Phyllis
Scaccia
d. Aug 18, 2023
Salem
Mary Phyllis (McGuirk) Scaccia left this world suddenly on Aug 18 due to a short illness after 86 eventful years on this earth, 66 of them married to the love of her life, Frederick Scaccia.
Born in Hyde Park, MA on May 4, 1937 to John and Emma (Duffy) McGuirk, she graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1954. She married Fred on May 18, 1957. She gave birth to three of her five children while living in Lawrence, MA. The remaining two were born while living on Haigh Ave in Salem, NH. She lived in Salem NH for the past 60 years, splitting her time in Pompano Beach FL for the last 25 where she enjoyed socializing and relaxing with Fred with a glass of wine and a warm sunset.
Phyllis worked the evening shift for 20 years as a proof operator at Arlington Trust Co/Shawmut Bank, after but not before she would religiously cook and enjoy dinner with her family. Her budgeting skills enabled her family to want for nothing while instilling financial responsibility in all of them.
Phyllis loved her Irish roots, her family, and her beloved Red Sox. She was a great bowler and had a competitive streak, even with her grandchildren! She never missed an event and was frequently the last to leave. She and Fred loved to dance cheek to cheek.
She was a dedicated historian of the family events and all her children were given albums that chronicled their lives. She knew the birthday and anniversary of every aunt, uncle, cousin and friend. Her 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren will miss her famous meatballs and chocolate cake, but will be comforted by the blankets that she handmade for each of them. Phyllis was a long time parishioner of Mary Queen of Peace Church.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Fred and their children, Ronald of Greenville NH, Linda and her husband Kevin Marquis of Staatsburg NY, Gerald and his wife Mary of Londonderry NH, Lisa DiPalermo of Merrimack NH, and Robert and his wife Stacey of Londonderry, NH; her 10 grandchildren, Randall, Anthony, Mary Kate, Angela, Francesca, Bernardo, Santino, Sophia, Matt and Anthony and her 6 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Emma, her brothers Lawry, Pat, and Mark, and her sister Patricia.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 24th from 4:00 - 8:00PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 25th at 10:30 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Rd., Salem. Please arrive at church by 10:15 AM. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phyllis' name may be made to the charity of your choice.
