Miklos "Nick" Czifrik, 81, of Salem, NH, a devoted husband, father, community leader, and lifelong soccer enthusiast, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026.

Miklos was born in Győrszentiván, Hungary in January 1945.  Together with his parents and two younger brothers, the family escaped to Austria in November 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution against Soviet communist rule.  The family eventually came to the United States and settled in Woburn, MA.  After graduating from Keith Academy in Lowell, MA he proudly served in the United States Air Force.

Following his military service, Miklos graduated from the University of Massachusetts and then built a successful career as a self-employed private healthcare practice consultant, throughout Southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Miklos was deeply committed to his community in the Greater Salem area. He was a founding member of the Greater Salem Rotary Club after many years as a member of the Salem-Methuen Rotary Club, where he served with distinction. His Rotary involvement included starting the club's scholarship program, eventually named The Nick Czifrik Scholarship Program, and organizing the annual Fishing Derby for the Town of Salem. He also volunteered with the Rotary to assist with the Special Olympics. In recognition of his outstanding service, he was honored with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award.

A dedicated volunteer, Miklos served on the school board of Saint Joseph's School and gave generously of his time as a volunteer with the Greater Salem Caregivers.

Soccer was Miklos' lifelong passion. In 1984, he founded Salem Youth Soccer, creating opportunities for countless young athletes to learn and enjoy the sport. He coached numerous  in-town and travel teams and went on to serve as Director of the New Hampshire Olympic Development Program and as a board member of the NH Soccer Association. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's, he continued playing in the New England Over-the-Hill Soccer League well into his 70s, inspiring players of all ages with his abilities and dedication to the game. He also dedicated himself to Parkinson's research, participating in ongoing case studies at BU Medical Center, in efforts to learn and combat the disease.

Later in life he was fortunate to reconnect with his roots, visiting his hometown in Hungary many times where he met with old friends, attended class reunions and many soccer games.

He also enjoyed reading, spending time with his family and tending to his vegetable garden.

Miklos is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Rosemary (Curry) Czifrik of Salem, NH; his two sons, Steven Miklos Czifrik of Salem, NH and John Czifrik and wife Ildiko of Newburyport, MA; his brother, Imre "Jim" Czifrik and wife Dianne of Hillsboro, NH; his four grandchildren, Austin and Dallin Holub and Emma and Nora Czifrik and his nieces and nephews, Timothy, Robin, Christopher, Jennifer and Alex, as well as numerous extended family members throughout Canada.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa (Czifrik) Holub and his siblings, Zoltan Czifrik and Eva Czifrik.

Miklos' warmth, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his community touched the lives of many. He will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments but for his enthusiasm, quick wit, and wry sense of humor. His impact on youth soccer in New Hampshire and his generous spirit within the Rotary Club will continue to benefit future generations.

Calling hours will be Friday, April 24, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH.
