Norman Larry Kaufman, 92, of Windham, NH passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve.

Larry is survived by his son, Richard and his wife Judith of Dover, NH and his daughter, Suzanne and her husband Jim Cipriano of Salem, NH; his six grandchildren, Allyson, Benjamin, Rachel, Matthew, Michael and Cassandra; his eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Adeline, JJ, Carter, Max, Mia, Weiler and Ellie.

Larry was born in New York City, NY on October 4, 1927. At an early age, he and his family moved to a farm in Upstate New York. It was there that Larry developed his lifelong passion for fishing. In early 1944, he joined the US Navy and served with distinction in the Pacific. After the war ended, he stayed in the Navy and visited an assortment of Asian, European and South American Countries. In 1948, he was discharged from the service and married Edith Rose Mazza, his high school sweetheart.

Larry went to work for the US Army Missile Command and traveled extensively with them in the deep South. He was stationed for several years as a project manager at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL which served as the primary site for US space launch vehicle design well into the 1960's.

In 1962, Larry, Edith, Richard and Suzanne moved to Salem, NH. Larry continued to work for the US Army Missile Command and was stationed at Raytheon Corporation in charge of the Patriot Missile. During this time, Larry received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

While still in Salem he resumed, with fervor, his passion for fishing. Weekends and his days off, he could be found at different lakes and streams throughout New Hampshire. He could be found either on his boat or wading out from the shore. It didn't matter, as long as he had a line in the water. Despite his New York roots, he became an ardent Boston Sports fan.

Moving to Windham, NH in 1998, he became a member of the Board of Trustees of the Windham Historical Museum. After the death of Edith in 2002, Larry became a volunteer for the Town of Windham. Whether it was working on state, local or national elections or driving the elderly to appointments, Windham could always count on Larry. In recognition of his hard work and dedication, Windham named him Volunteer of the Year in 2008.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be on Monday, December 30 ^th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
