Norman W. Young, Jr. 81, of Windham, NH passed away at the Lahey Clinic on August 7, 2024.
He grew up in New York and Ohio, the son of the late Margaret and Norman W. Young, Sr. As a boy, he learned to sail and he developed a love for music, later playing in a band. Norm found custom cars as a replacement for sailing when he moved to Ohio. He served his country in the Army Security Agency in Germany and enjoyed traveling around Europe. Norm began his career as a draftsman later becoming a computer programmer. He worked for many years at Wang Laboratories until they collapsed, then worked for several computer companies in the area.
After Norm retired, he joined the Friends of Moeckel Pond where he served as Vice President and Treasurer. His passion became restoring the 250-year-old dam. It took 11 years for the restoration, but the dam stands as the largest Labyrinth Dam in the State of NH. Norm also served as Auditor for the Moeckel Pond Village District. Norman loved to watch the wildlife of the pond including, turtles, otters, fox family, herons, birds.
Norm will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 33 years, Stephanie Young of Windham, NH; his twin daughters, Heidi Morrison and husband Jeff of Dover, NH and Holly McInerney and husband J. Douglas of OH; his siblings, Daniel Young of OH and Patricia Henry of IN; his 5 grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Ryan, Evelina and MollyRose; his 4 nieces and nephews and his loyal companion, Cookie.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 17th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norman's name may be made to: Friends of Moeckel Pond, 26 Rock Pond Rd. Windham, NH 03087.
