Oliver A. Hobbs, 87, a longtime resident of Salem, NH passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Derry, NH. He was born in Lawrence, MA, a son of the late Oliver D. and Irene (Hudson Burns) Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs was educated in the Methuen, MA school system. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army for 21 years, serving his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring from service as a Staff Sergeant. He served as a Drill Sergeant during the Korean War and acted as an Advisor for the National Guard. Following his military service he was the owner of many businesses, including Broadway American Gas Station in Methuen, Hobbs Bike Shop in Methuen and Hobbs Sign Service Company in Salem. Throughout his life he was a very hard worker. He was an all around big hearted great guy who would help anyone who needed his help. Mr. Hobbs enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved his entire family deeply.

He is survived by his three children; Connie Sullivan and her husband Brian of Derry, Andrew Hobbs of Derry and Stacey Lira and her husband Steven of Sandown, NH. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Shanon, Noah, Julia and Tayah, by several brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years; Megan R. (Jones) Hobbs in 2002 and by two brothers; Brian and Robert Hobbs.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A funeral service will follow Monday at 7:00pm in the funeral home. Military honors will follow the funeral service. Burial will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
