Patrick "Pat" J. Finnigan, 87, of Salem, NH passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family in the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen, MA following a period of failing health. He was born on April 29, 1932 in Nashua, NH, a son of the late Patrick J. and Margaret (Cotter) Finnigan.

Mr. Finnigan graduated from Nashua High School, Class of 1950 and from St. Anselm College, Class of 1954. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In August of 1958 he married Dorothy Snow and together they recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Mr. Finnigan went on to earn his Masters Degree in Education in 1968. He taught school for seven years in the Salem, NH school district and 31 years in Andover, MA. Mr. Finnigan also worked for many years as a postman for the Salem NH post office. He was a longtime and active communicant of St. Joseph Church in Salem and one of its first Lectors. Mr. Finnigan enjoyed golf, the beach, traveling, his yearly trips to Florida and later, his daily trips to the mall. He was a man of great faith and loved his family fiercely. He loved spending time with them, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Snow) Finnigan of Salem; his four children Sheila Apice and husband Dan of Windham, NH, Joseph Finnigan and wife Jennifer of Methuen, Brenda Wilson and husband Bruce of Derry, NH and Mary Calderone and husband Ernest of Chester, NH. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Kristen (Robert) Novak, Jennifer (James) Kiessling, Matthew (Shawna) Knapp, Bryan (Amanda)Ouellette, Amanda (Michael) Bianca, Liam Finnigan, Tyler Calderone, Colleen Finnigan, Brooke Wilson, Rachel Yarid and Anastasia Yarid; by eight great-grandchildren; Kayla, Emily, Grace-Ann, Hailey, Sophie, Hannah, Ethan Patrick and Beckett; by his brother, Rev. John B. Finnigan of Suncook; two sisters Martha Brooks of Windham and Margaret Ellen Finnigan of Nashua; and by five nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Brian Finnigan and his sister, Sister Sheila Finnigan, S.N.D.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, October 7, 2019 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8th at 11:00am in St. Joseph Church, 40 Main St., Salem.  The burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, 329 Main St., Salem.
