Philip A. (Carpy) Carpenito, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at his Exeter home after a long illness. He was born August 24, 1929 in Lawrence Mass, the 6 ^th of 10 children of Feliciano and Anna (Ciaraldi) Carpenito. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria (Archambault) Carpenito.

Raised during the Great Depression, "Carpy" left school at age 16 to support his large family. At 18, he enlisted in the Army; during the Korean War he served in the 7th Infantry Division and was a Chosin Reservior survivor. Carpy was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952 and continued his chosen career as a bricklayer working for his Uncle Frank Ciaraldi. He was a 50 year member of The International Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local 3 working throughout Northern Massachusetts area.

In 1953 he met the love of his life, Gloria Archambault and they were married on June 18 1955 in Nashua NH. They moved to Salem NH in 1958, where they raised their 3 children and resided for 57 years.

At age 14, Philip's first job was a caddy at the Merrimack Valley Country Club which led to his lifetime love of golf. He had an athletic nature, and played in the Pine Valley Golf Course Seneca League for many years and was a member at Crystal Springs Golf Course. He was an avid bowler and played in leagues at Sandy Bowling lanes Salem NH until his last few years. He was a dedicated sports fan and loved the Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also followed his granddaughters' college football teams, the Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs and Army West Point Black Knights.

Philip enjoyed a full and active retirement which included extensive travel with Gloria throughout the United States and Europe.

Family was very important to Philip and he was loved by all. His kind demeanor and optimistic outlook were his hallmark, and he made a lasting impression on all who knew him. His pride and joy were his two granddaughters, CPT Felicia E. (Carpenito) Votta (TXARNG) and 1LT Gabrielle M. Carpenito (USA). He was intimately involved in all aspects of their lives from birth, and his proudest moments were attending their college graduation, the honor of giving them their first salute as commissioned Army Officers and attending Felicia's wedding in 2019.

Philip was a patriot as well as an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor; he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and granddaughters, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Philip L. and Roxanne Carpenito Fort Worth TX; Anne Marie and Ward Galanis Hampton NH, and Richard A. Carpenito Los Angeles CA., two sisters, Elena Carpenito, Methuen MA, Geraldine (Carpenito) Defrancesco Seabrook NH, three brothers, Ernest Scottdale AZ, William, Salem NH and Raymond, Methuen MA and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:00am in St. Joseph Church, 40 Main St., Salem.  Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.
