Richard "Dick" A. Poulin, 87, died on September 28, 2021 at Salemhaven Nursing Home after a long illness.
Dick was born in Manchester, NH to Albert and Irene Poulin. He attended St. Anthony of Padua Parish School and Bishop Bradley (now Trinity) High School in Manchester where he graduated as salutatorian in 1952. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1956 with a degree in Economics and was a member of the ROTC. In 1958, Dick married the love of his life, Eleanor (Di Buono), also of Manchester. He served as First Lieutenant in the US Air Force in Air Traffic Control at Johnson AFB in Japan. Upon returning to the states, he was employed by Western Electric, Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and Sanders Associates (now BAE Systems), from which he retired in 1990.
Dick and Ellie moved to Salem, NH in 1962 to raise their family. Dick was active in many town organizations, including the Salem NH Lions Club, Salem High School Boosters Club, Salem Council of Fine Arts, The Knights of Columbus, Salem Historical Society, and the Veteran's Association. Dick served on the board of the Spicket Valley Credit Union and was a driver for the Greater Salem Caregivers. He was a passionate supporter of UNH football, frequently attending tailgates and games. He was a long-time member of Saints Mary and Joseph Parish.
Dick enjoyed playing bridge, reading, traveling to warm climates (he despised the cold!). Over the years, he and Ellie took trips and cruises all over the world. He loved entertaining family and friends, telling amusing stories to any willing ear. Dick was a kind and gentle soul who regularly visited friends in local nursing homes and dogs at the Salem Animal Rescue League.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor, daughter Diane (Poulin) Coniglio (husband Anthony) of New Castle, NH, son Richard Jr. (Rick) of Salem and son Mark (wife Pamela [Narinkevicuis]) of Gloucester, MA. He leaves three grandchildren: Kathryn Coniglio of Jersey City, NJ, and Nicholas and Noah Poulin of Gloucester, MA.
Following cremation visiting hours will be held Monday, October 4, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:30pm in the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 12:30pm. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery , 329 Main St, Salem.
Due to COVID-19, at the request of the family, masks are required with social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Greater Salem Caregivers, 44 Millville St., Salem, NH 03079, to Catholic Charities of NH (https://www.cc-nh.org/donate/), or to a charity of one's choice.
