Richard D. Fahey, 93, of Salem, NH died Saturday, December 2nd at Salemhaven.

Richard was born and educated in Waltham, MA, the son of the late Agnes (Kennedy) and John J. Fahey. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II.

He graduated from Boston College, entered the New England Province of the Society of Jesus in 1948 and was later ordained. He received master's degrees in social work from Loyola University in Chicago and Simmons College in Boston.

He left the priesthood and worked as a psychiatric social worker in New Hampshire and Massachusetts at several institutions, and had a private practice in Salem, NH.

He had a deep love of the outdoors, especially the ocean, and enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing and playing tennis. He was an avid reader.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy (Przybyla) Fahey of Salem, NH; his children, Jonathan Fahey and wife Jennifer Pringle of Brooklyn, NY and Kara Blackburn and husband David of Brookline, MA; his sister, Janet Coen of Marshfield, MA; 5 grandchildren, Katie and Paul Fahey, Peter, Buzzy, and Annie Blackburn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Fahey and his sister Ruth Jones.

Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm in the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. A memorial service will follow Friday in the funeral home at 2:00pm.
