Obituary

Richard "Dick" Anthony Moore, 76, of Salem, N.H. passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, at his home, after a long battle with lung cancer. Dick was born in Methuen, MA on August 8, 1946, to the late Roland Moore and Ann (Filella) Moore. Dick has always called the Merrimack Valley and surrounding areas his home.

Dick proudly served our country in the Vietnam War as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic in the U.S. Army, 2nd Automotive Maintenance Platoon, 76th Heavy Tank and Armor Division. During his service, he was awarded multiple Citations for his technical competence, initiative, leadership abilities, and setting an outstanding example for other servicemen by the 27th Maintenance Battalion, 1st Air Cavalry Division.

After coming home, Dick worked various jobs in the area. His most memorable were as a commercial fisherman, where he owned and operated his own lobster boat. As a true New Englander, Dick had a passion for fishing. He loved anything that could be caught from the Atlantic Ocean or dug up from one of the beaches along its coast. He also worked at Granite State Potato Chip Co. in Salem, N.H. cooking up those famous Potato chips in the buckets. Most recently Dick's career brought him to KLLM Transport Services, in Jackson, MS. After spending over 30 years driving cross-country as a professional team driver with his wife, Melinda, Dick retired in July 2021.

He also enjoyed working on cars and playing handyman to his family's homes. His most recent passion was target shooting and perfecting his marksmanship skills. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and passing along his technical knowledge. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Melinda (Vaiksnoris) Moore, brother, Robert Moore of Lawrence, MA, daughter Ann Marie Moore of Newburyport, MA. And Georgiana Elliot (Brian) of Newburyport, MA., along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will also be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Michele Murray (Thomas) of Derry, NH., brother-in-law, Andrew Marcoux (Iza) of Phoenix, AZ., nieces, Samantha Murray and Madeleine Marcoux and nephew, Timothy Marcoux. Dick was predeceased by his nephew, Aaron Lussier. Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend visitation services on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem N.H.
