Robert M. Koczat, 72, of Salem, NH passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, May 25th.
Bob was born and educated in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Helen (Kobrenski) and Sigmund "Ziggy" Koczat. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1968 and he received his Bachelor's Degree from Lowell Technological Institute.
Bob retired from Raytheon where was the principal software engineer for the inception of the Patriot Missile. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church until they closed and a member of the Holy Name Society. Bob was the Vice President of the Friends of the Salem, NH Recreation, Inc. where he participated in obtaining a Federal Grant to enhance accessibility at parks and playgrounds in Salem. He was the founder of the infamous football pool where he delivered the results on his bicycle before the development of computers. Bob was in charge of the Brothers Open golf tournament where as many as 40 players participated for the past 24 years. He participated for many years in basketball leagues on The Bullets. Bob enjoyed wintering in Florida; playing softball on the Raytheon League, playing 45's and pickle ball and exercising at Cedardale and the Workout Club. He loved playing golf and he was a preferred member of Scottish Highlands. Most especially he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving Bobo and Grampy to his grandchildren and he loved being the physical education teacher to his homeschooled grandchildren.
Bob will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Shelley (Leeman) Koczat of Salem, NH, his two daughters, Tracey Gingras and husband Rob of Salem, NH and Kathy Mota and husband Marco of Keene, NH; his brother, James Koczat and wife Diane of Salem, NH; his grandchildren, Madison, McKenzie, Kaelyn, Alexis, Jack, Sofie, Hope, Kaleb, Jase, Grady, Livvie and Abby; his nephew, Danny and his niece Kristen.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 31st from 2:00 -6:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH 03079.
