Obituary

Roy Sargent, 57, of Windham, NH, passed away surrounded by those who loved him at Mass General Hospital on Sept. 29th following a brief illness.

Roy grew up in Wilmington, MA, and was a graduate of Wilmington High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from UMass Lowell. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Wilmington. Roy was a civil engineer and was the founder of ESI Steel, a Steel Brokerage & Detailing Company in Derry, NH.

Roy was a man of many talents and passions. He had a love for traveling, hiking, and staying active. He had a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu and he proudly earned his black belt in Muay Thai. He also enjoyed coaching his children’s numerous youth sports and took great pride in encouraging and supporting young athletes.

A talented carpenter and designer, Roy had a natural ability to build and create. He served as the general contractor for all three of his family’s homes, putting his knowledge, craftsmanship, and personal touch into each one. His work was a reflection of his determination, creativity, and pride in providing for his family.

Above all else, Roy was a devoted dad. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished the time they spent together. Whether traveling, hiking, enjoying a drive to the ocean, or simply relaxing with a cold beer or a Manhattan, Roy appreciated life’s simple moments and the company of the people he loved.

Roy will be remembered for his strength, determination, generosity, sense of adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Marlene Sargent; his children, Emily Sargent, Sarah Sargent, and Ian Sargent; his father, Alan Sargent; his siblings, Frank Sargent, Glen Sargent, Stacy Doucette, and Jean Hanafin; his in-laws with whom he had a special relationship, Joe and Staci Blecharczyk, Denise St. Pierre, Melanie Blecharczyk, Sherry and Rick Matthews; his mother in-law Ruth Blecharczyk, many nieces and nephews and countless close friends.

Roy was predeceased by his mother, Julia Sargent.

Roy’s services are private for the family. The Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
