Ruth Ellen Colliton 74, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24th.
Born in New York, Ruth Ellen spent her late teens in New Hampshire after her family relocated. She graduated from Salem High School and earned her bachelor's degree in English from Rivier College. Ruth Ellen was the first children's librarian at Kelley Library, where she dedicated many years of service. She later obtained her technical writing certification and worked as a technical writer for Safety Net Solutions.
A proud member of St. Joseph's Parish, Ruth Ellen sang in the folk group for many years. She enjoyed her time at the Pelham and Londonderry Senior Centers, where she and her husband, Luke, made lasting friendships, participated in Tai Chi and bone builders classes, and enjoyed vending at the annual craft fair alongside her granddaughters.
Ruth Ellen was an avid gamer, relishing in games like Whist and role-playing. For 39 years, she and Luke hosted a weekly game night. She also loved crocheting, embroidery, and was a passionate reader.
Ruth Ellen will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Luke, of 51 years; her daughter, Beth Doherty, and her husband, Jim, of Derry; her brother, Thomas Seidell, and his wife, Laura, also of Derry; her four grandchildren, Allie, Shamus, Evelyn, and Jack; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, October 28th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 29th at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 40 Main St, Salem, NH. Please arrive by 10:45 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry, NH. Memorial contributions in Ruth's name may be sent to Londonderry Senior Center, 535 Mammoth Rd. Londonderry, NH 03053.
