Obituary

Sandra "Sandie" Jean Lakin, 73, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Penacook Place in Haverhill following a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on May 17, 1947 to the late Joseph and Clara (Kuczkowski) Auricchio.

Sandie was born and raised in Haverhill, MA and graduated from Haverhill High School. She went on to earn her Associate's Degree from Northern Essex Community College, her Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from the University of Lowell, and her MBA from New Hampshire College. She worked in the marketing field for many years before becoming a Professor of Business at Hesser College until her retirement in 2014. Sandie had a passion for education and she loved teaching, always going the extra mile for her students. She enjoyed attending their graduation ceremonies, and kept in touch with many of her students after graduation.

Sandie met her husband Bill through her mother when they both worked at the same accounting firm. They married in 1977 and made their home in Salem, NH. They enjoyed spending time together on the golf course, and both were members at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Haverhill for many years. They enjoyed vacationing in the summer, and often rented cottages at Ossipee Lake and Hampton Beach. They also adopted Bernie, their beloved greyhound, from Greyhound Adoption Service and they attended several greyhound adoption reunions over the years. After her husband passed away, Sandie adopted another dog, Wanda, from the MSPCA, and they enjoyed many walks and trips to the beach.

Sandie was a member of the women's league at Crystal Springs and spent many days on the golf course with her friends. She was a big sports fan, but especially loved watching football and cheering on the New England Patriots. She enjoyed being outdoors, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. They have many fond memories of trips to Canobie Lake Park, the Topsfield Fair, and miniature golfing with Grammie.

She is survived by her daughter Kristin (Paulsen) Fili and her husband Mark, her granddaughter Mackenna and her grandson Nick, all of Salem, NH, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William K. Lakin.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Atria Marland Place and Penacook Place for the compassionate care they provided for Sandie. Services are private at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandie's name to the MSPCA, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA, or the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090-6011.
