Obituary

Sara Murray, 84, of Methuen, MA, formerly of Salem, NH, died September 14, 2022 after a brief illness. Born in Lawrence, MA on December 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Maccarelli) Stella of Methuen, MA.  Upon graduating from the Lawrence High School in 1955, she married her high school sweetheart in 1957 and moved to Salem, NH.

Sara was an avid piano player who enjoyed sharing her talent with local nursing home residents. She was a member of the Salem NH Junior Women's club for many years. Sara was the admissions coordinator for many years at the Knights of Columbus charitable bingo. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her many friends and proudly welcomed her great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, James J. Murray.  Sara is survived by her two sons, James (Maryanne) and Michael Murray; her brother Louis (Maryann) Stella; her sister-in- law Ann Hildebrand of West Gloucester, MA; her grandchildren Jason (Alise) and Samantha (Adam); her two great-grandchildren Avery and Jackson Murray and her nephews, Louis (Felicia) and Mark (Cindy) Stella. She is also survived by her life-long friend, Bette Beshara.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 18 th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 19 th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Parish, 40 Main St. Salem, NH.  Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sara's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
